‘A Surfer’s Paradise’: Tofino Makes List of Best Small Towns in Canada

The District of Tofino is once again in the spotlight as a top travel destination in Canada.

On Friday, travel website Conde Nast Traveler released its list of “the most charming small towns in Canada,” and Tofino was at the top of the charts.

Conde Nast praised the oceanside community’s quick access to sandy beaches and thick forests as one of the many reasons to visit.

“Set on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island, Tofino is a surfer’s paradise and a nature-lovers retreat,” reads the list.

It also pointed to Tofino’s creative food scene, which highlights local ingredients with unique culinary twists.

In October, the Conde Nast Readers’ Choice Awards named Victoria the best small city in the world, and declared Vancouver Island itself as the fourth-best island in North America to visit.

Meanwhile, the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino was also voted the third-best resort in Canada, while the Brentwood Bay Resort was voted ninth best, according to the Conde Nast Readers’ Choice Awards.

Near Tofino, the seaside community of Ucluelet was also the recipient of a travel award this year.

Canadian magazine Maclean’s called Ucluelet one of the “best 10 places to visit in Canada this year,” which highlighted vacation spots that may not be as well known in Canada.
